Dutch, b. 2002

Beau Pyka is a conceptual storyteller, whether through film, performance, music, or graphic design. She uses visual arts as a tool to extract or ‘liberate’ certain symbols from their customary meaning or context. Is it possible to strip a concept naked of social constructs? Themes of identity construction, the unconscious mind, and perception are therefore prevalent in her work. Research in philosophy and psychology is translated into immersive visuals that are often uncanny, mystical, ‘trippy,’ or even unsettling. Music and performance, on the other hand, embody freedom and healing for her as a practice. Beau is best known for her vocal improvisations and A Capella compositions in the genres of jazz, soul, blues, and funk.

In her project “PASSIVE REHEARSAL,” Beau confronts her discomfort and disconnect with femininity, incorporating playfulness into her exploration of freedom of expression. Emphasizing playfulness, silliness, and intuition, silliness, and intuition, she advocates for authenticity and innovation in her artistic practice.
